7th/8th Gr Mr Coey
Teacher Biography
Mr. Coey
Hello! My name is Mr. Charles Coey. I am the math and science teacher for the 7th and 8th grades, and I also teach religion to the 7th grade. I am brand new to teaching middle school students, but I do have several years experience teaching at the college level.
I struggled myself learning math when I was in middle and high school. Then, thanks to a good teacher, I started to really understand and enjoy it. I began to volunteer as a tutor and discovered the joy of teaching. So, I have a lot of empathy for those students who struggle with math and science, and I want to help them see they can overcome those challenges!
I am privileged to be here teaching your children at St. A's. I am very happy to speak with you about their progress and performance, or if you have any questions or concerns at all. Class News
Blessed Holy Week to all of you! I hope you enjoy your break away from school. Rest well, and spend some quality time with your loved ones.
7th Grade News:
- In math class, students recently completed their statistics project that required them to analyze and compare two large samples of data (50 scores each)! When we are back from break, we will cover the last main objective: probability.
- In science class, we are finally ready to begin our dissection lab. Students, please remember to return with a signed permission slip so that you can participate! It is going to be awesome!
- In religion class, we spent our last class discussing the meaning of Holy Week and how the main themes of the Christian story of salvation are incorporated in the events we celebrate over the next few days. When we return, we will finish our last main section on the life and ministry of Jesus.
- Students completed our Lenten charity project, more-or-less. We didn't get to all of the classes as intended, but that is OK. We will have many more opportunities for small acts of love in this Easter season!
8th Grade News:
- In math class, we had intended to have a quiz on linear functions just before we left for break. So many students were absent that we treated it as a practice quiz instead. We will have a quick review when were back and take the real quiz later that week.
- In science class, we also need to take a quiz on atoms and molecules, but then we will transition into a bunch of lab work. In the last few weeks of class, we will try to dissect a worm, perform some chemical reactions, and build a popsicle-stick bridge too!
